Day 34 -12/09/20

Today I couldn’t get myself to stop working. I was toying around with tons of different cool animation ideas for the two waves I was put in charge of animating. Around 10 PM I finally decided to call it with what I had, and I am pretty happy with what I ended on but I definitely will be checking it over in the morning. Anyway, not many words to be said as my day was all animating, so I will visually share my day here instead.

Wave 12

The enemies pan onto the screen from the left, but the player can’t interact with them quite yet since they are on different z-axis from the player. After jetting off the screen the animator triggers the next animation which loops until they are dead. My next step for Wave 12 is to edit our spawn manager to have a separate spawn tracker for the animations, this way I can spawn different enemies while the animation is running. To try to clear this up, currently, our animation is a part of the wave count. So if I increase our number of enemies to spawn to more than 1, we have a chance of spawning multiple animations.

Wave 16

This animation looks incredibly hectic because it is actually multiple animations I had been messing around with all being called at once. I figured I would share it because it actually looks pretty cool but I don’t think it would be very playable as you can see. Anyway, the main animation for Wave 16 is actually the 3 larger enemies zooming into the distance and then coming back and panning onto the screen. While they are on the screen they start rotating around each other and then a few seconds later they begin to rotate around the screen as a group while continuing to rotate. I think the weapons will need to be tuned down quite a bit, as once they begin firing there is not much the player can do in terms of landing shots on them or dodging.

The animation of the smaller enemies looping around the screen was my original animation idea but I later scrapped it and decided to create Wave 12 instead.

Anyway, I hope you all like the animations I created. I feel like each time I work with the animator I learn something new and so it’s always exciting thinking of new awesome designs I can try to pull off.
