Day 19–11/17/20

Today is the second day I have been on the cinematography course, and already I am catching myself watching things from a different perspective. Video game trailers, shows, and even movies, I am paying more attention to angles and shots used and what type of effects or panning is used to enhance the scene. It’s funny how learning something new does that, but at the same time, it makes me feel a little more productive while not programming as I at least have thoughts running in the back of my head on how I would try to recreate such a scene. Anyway, I am absolutely enjoying the way this course has changed my perspective, as I am now always thinking about how I would go about doing something I see in a video game or video.

Getting into my progress. Today I finished the End of Level Cut Scene and am about to be finished with the Intro Cut Scene. The first of the two was fairly quick and easy to do as it is about several seconds long. The Intro Cut Scene on the other hand is a fairly hefty project in itself. It is over a minute long cutscene with over a dozen different shots. You pair that with the fact that I always have to toy around with things, and it takes a good amount of time to work through. My goal for tomorrow is to finish polishing up the intro scene so that I can move on to the player and enemy ai sections.

I think I need to tone the noise down a little

Most of the camera work I did today was what I had gone over yesterday but just a bit more intensive. But reps are always good, and I definitely am feeling more and more comfortable with setting up scenes and animating them. One of my favorite tools to use is the blending tool. And fortunately, it is one of the easiest ways to enhance a scene. That along with adding a more natural feel to the shot through the noise function in Cinemachine and you are on your way to a somewhat professional-looking shot.

After I had my scene blocked out and the virtual cameras set, it was time to add audio. Although Darren resembles a more in shape Dr. Evil, he has the voice of Keanu Reeves which leaves me extremely confused. Is he badass Neo from the matrix or is this pinky sucking Dr. Evil from Austin Powers? Either way, adding audio to the scene has made the intro feel that much more refined and closer to its final product. As mentioned earlier, I still have to go through and polish up the clips to match the audio as we added the audio last. I’m excited to finish the intro up and see the final cut with audio and polished up animations.
